Joe Saunders did not pitch great in either of his two starts on the Diamondbacks' previous road trip, but he didn't get much help from his defense, either. He matched up against Saunders on Sept. 10, giving up two runs in six innings and striking out 10. . . . He has a 2.00 ERA in 54 innings vs. the Diamondbacks. Rockies update: The Rockies have been one of the baseball's hotter teams, going 20-7 since Aug. 22. Big surprise, eh? Since 2007, they've fashioned a reputation of being a strong second-half team, They were 7 1/2 games back in the NL West on Sept. 2 but have pulled within 1 1/2 games of first place. With an incredible September, SS Troy Tulowitzki is being talked about as an MVP candidate. He has 14 home runs and a .351 average in 18 games this month.OF Carlos Gonzalez also is in the MVP picture; he has a .340 average with 32 homers.
